Electronic CCTV surveillance and digital recording systems manufacturer, Thales Advanced Engineering, has developed a new digital panic alarm system (DPAS) to improve security for individual tenants in shopping malls.
The DPAS fully integrates with the Thales Argus digital CCTV surveillance solution for shopping malls, airports and other public facilities, adding a new dimension to the security of tenants in such complexes. However, it can also be installed to operate as a standalone system independent of the CCTV system.
Tenants can activate the panic alarms by pushing a wall button concealed within their premises or use a very compact, lightweight portable radio link device that can be carried in the tenant's pocket.
Thales joint managing director, Dr Bennie Coetzer, says the panic alarm signals are received directly by the central Argus surveillance system in the security control room.
"This alerts control room personnel and the Argus system automatically concentrates and directs surveillance cameras to focus on the panic alarm area. Patrolling guards can be immediately dispatched to the vicinity to react to any incident or to observe."
Apart from improved, proactive security and peace of mind for tenants, other benefits are better incident management and control for the mall administration. The first Thales DPAS installation of more than 100 units has been completed at Cape Town's Cavendish Square shopping mall, where the project consultants were M2C of Cape Town.
