Recent travellers through the US can only be impressed with the speed and efficiency of airport security personnel responding to an 'Orange' alert. So says Morris Maram of Emergency Reaction Services, local distributors Ranger Security Weapon and Security Detectors.
Says Maram, "The fingerprint and photo procedure on arrival is completed in seconds. Internal air travellers are subjected to an extremely polite and efficient methodical weapon search using both walk through and handheld metal detectors. This included checking shoes and every item in a toiletry bag."
"The security procedure in Times Square on New Years Eve was a lesson in efficiency. Nearly a million people were checked with handheld metal detectors before being allowed into the area. Another amazing statistic is that there was not one arrest during these celebrations."
"The tightening of security within the US and UK has perhaps made international subsidiary companies or companies who have major connections with these countries, a little more vulnerable. Our security needs in South Africa are even more comprehensive. Criminals are often brazen enough to enter business premises during working hours to relieve management and customers of cash, jewellery, computers and other valuable items," he adds.
"Many international companies specify 'gun free' environments for their international branches. Often this is politely ignored because of the imagined hassles of monitoring their entrances," says Maram. "Ranger provides a hassle-free secure system to protect entrances. The new Ranger Multi Zone metal detectors allow you to walk through the detector with normal quantities of keys and coins, without triggering the alarm. Walk through with a weapon and the alarm triggers. The various zones scan the different areas of a body independently, ignoring small harmless objects. When activated, the built in display on the detector pinpoints the location of one or more weapons at a glance. If you thought weapon detectors were more trouble than they are worth, think again. The days of old technology units that are triggered by a pen and reading glasses are over."
The Ranger Detectors are also programmable. The detectors can be set to detect specific types of metal such as copper or items such as electronic chips. This is ideal for company asset protection, where the detector is programmed to only activate on specific items.
Detectors are available in two, six and 18 zones. Ranger also supplies weatherproof and portable models, ideal for conferences, conventions, trade shows, sports events etc.
"The Ranger handheld metal detector is highly rated by the FAA (US Federal Aviation Administration). It is now widely used around the world where prompt, efficient weapon detection can be instituted anywhere. This easy to use detector is also very reasonably priced with the current rand dollar exchange rate," concludes Maram.
