Wireless intrusion detection

Residential Estate Security Handbook 2018 Perimeter Security, Alarms & Intruder Detection, Products & Solutions

Powell Tronics adds wireless intrusion detection systems to its security solutions. Ajax has combined the benefits of major do-it-yourself (DIY) and professional alarm systems to provide a system that is ready to install out of the box. SmartPlacement technology allows installers and end-users alike to select the perfect spot to place the detectors and professional-level installation can be completed in 15 minutes with the SmartBracket mounts.

The Ajax StarterKit comprises a motion detector, door opening detector and a key fob in sleek black or white casings. Users can quickly and easily enhance their Ajax ecosystem by adding further detectors and accessories, providing for a fully scalable security solution.

As soon as one launches the Ajax system, it will start sending notifications to the user’s mobile device about the status of their home and the system itself. Alternatively, users can elect, with one click, to have alerts sent directly to a chosen security company’s control room.

“Users can allow their family, friends or neighbours to assist them in monitoring their security system by providing them with access to the Ajax Hub. All subscribers will receive notifications, allowing the nearest subscriber to provide instant assistance,” says John Powell, CEO of Powell Tronics.

Ajax has been designed to operate in even the most remote locations, where communications connectivity is typically very poor. The product’s IoT (Internet of Things) protocol is very compact and works at a GPRS speed of just 0.5 Kbps.

Ajax’s own protocol – Jeweller – securely connects all detectors and devices, up to 2 000 metres away, to the hub and pings at intervals starting from 12 seconds to monitor the state of the system. The signal is protected using ‘rolling code’ encryption and authentication. Even in cases of a network failure, the system will keep users updated using its DeliverAnyway algorithm.

Energy efficiency formed a critical part of the design process and the detectors are equipped with batteries that have a proven seven-year life. “Homeowners need to know that their system will remain running for the long term as battery failure could mean the difference between detecting or missing an intrusion event. The longevity of the Ajax detector batteries eliminates the need to constantly remember to change batteries, and when the device battery is running low it will send an alert to the user or control room,” says Powell.

The elimination of false alarms make the Ajax detectors firm favourites with users and security monitoring companies alike. SmartDetect technology detects alarms based on images, filtering thermal noise from draughts and air conditioners. The FresnelTech optical component, made from POLY IR4 material and an Excelitas pirosensor, eliminates false alarms due to glare and electromagnetic interference. Ajax’s MotionProtect two-factor detection of broken glass prevents false alarms from music, television or transportation noises.

Alexander Konotopskyi, CEO of Ajax Systems says: “We set ourselves the ambitious goal of developing a security system from scratch, at the same time making it a fashionable gadget and a serious professional solution. Not only does the system include intrusion detection devices, but we also have devices for the early detection of fire and flooding. We are happy with the result, but it does not stop us – we will continue to develop our ecosystem toward home automation and go deeper into the security market. We believe that the future is in the Internet of Things and security is its pillar.”
