In a first for Securex (South Africa's international security, protection and safety exhibition), a Fire Village will be established under the auspices of the Fire Detection Installers Association at the 2002 event.
"We expect to showcase the products and services of about 20 of our member companies and their associates in the Village," said FDIA Chairman Keith Norgate. "Letters inviting companies to book stands have only just been posted, but the level of interest is already gratifying.
"We chose to participate at Securex 2002 because it is focused on our end-user target market. We are satisfied that it will help us to effectively increase our exposure in some of our most important markets," said Norgate.
Among the industrial decision makers the Association expects to attract to the Fire Village are consulting engineers, electrical engineers and fire chiefs (both corporate and municipal).
Advanced fire detection technologies will be a major feature of the exhibits: "Included in the equipment on show will be analog-addressable detection equipment that has networking capability, as well as computer-based front end systems that can handle anything from two to 10 000 devices."
Securex 2002 will also be the venue for the Association's AGM as well as its technical seminars. "We plan to hold the seminars on the Thursday (28 February), and are currently confirming the participation of four overseas speakers who will present technical papers," said Norgate.
"If the Association's participation at Securex 2002 is a success, we would seriously consider making it an annual event," he said.
