September 2005 News & Events

This month, Hi-Tech Security Solutions has been around for 10 years so we decided to take a look at some of the main events that have taken place during our 'lifetime'... going through back issues of the magazine stirred a whole lot of emotions - from amazement at how technology has advanced, as well as at how forward-thinking we thought some products were during the last 10 years but now they are commonplace, or even redundant. But we do appreciate that that is what invention and progress are all about, and the products certainly earned their dues at the time. It was interesting to see advertisers who were once big and now no longer around, but it was great to see those who have been around and gone from strength to strength in a decade.

I have only been with Hi-Tech Security Solutions for 18 months and the changes and advancements in security and the technology that goes with it have astounded me, and continue to do so - it is all so much more sophisticated than what I had imagined it to be before I got involved in the industry!

All in all, we have so much to say about the last 10 years, and also our Top 10 feature that the editorial for these topics cannot possibly be limited just to this issue of Hi-Tech Security Solutions. Next month we will publish the Top 10 Most Influential, which Darren Smith has compiled based on responses from local companies and their views on the Top 10 Most Influential companies in key security sectors.

Apart from all the stories in this issue to do with our celebrations, Dr Craig Donald looks at how easily management can undermine the effectiveness of security, and we continue with our series on the convergence of physical security and IT, this month looking at 'the bottom line'.

Our feature this month is on event security, you can learn about the latest technologies and practices that help make public events as safe as possible.

Till next month,

Lynne Larsen
