Reliable mass notification

Issue 8 2023 Access Control & Identity Management

The use of voice alarm (VA) and voice evacuation (VE) systems within the healthcare industry ensures a safer and more reassuring environment in the event of an emergency.

As prescribed in SANS10400 Part T: Fire protection, the primary purpose of a VA/VE system is to alert and effectively evacuate all persons from a healthcare facility in an emergency. According to SANS10400, healthcare facilities of any size must have fire detection and voice evacuation (Note: The updated version of SANS-322 Fire Detection And Alarm Systems for hospitals is expected to be released within the next few months; voice evacuation is now included).

The secondary benefit is the ability to use the same system to deliver public address (PA) and mass notifications to the building as a whole or to separate sections in both live and pre-recorded formats (depending on the system design). Another benefit is its ability to distribute background music in suitable areas (e.g., restaurant areas), deliver general public awareness and health messages, etc.

Voice-guided messages or instructions significantly decrease confusion and panic among patients, visitors and staff by providing them with situational information and clear instructions on what to do next. A VA/VE system is essential to your facility’s existing fire and emergency plan.

Furthermore, a high-quality PA system is a vital part of any healthcare facility’s communication system, allowing the facility operators to relay different types of notifications, including incident alerts, paging members of staff, and departmental, general, or public announcements.

TOA’s reputation for quality and reliability ensures messages are relayed to their intended audience clearly and comprehensively, ultimately contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of the facility’s day-to-day operations.
