Radically increased levels of crime in the Cape metropolitan region are likely to boost interest in and participation at Securex Cape, the regional trade exhibition focused on the security, protection and safety industries.
"There has been a radical increase in the rate of crime in the region in recent months," says president of the Security Association of South Africa (SASA) Allan Hadfield. "As a result, interest is escalating in all aspects of electronic security for the protection of industrial, commercial and residential property.
"Cape Town's second Securex exhibition is bound to attract tremendous attention."
TML Reed exhibitions manager Tom McCafferty anticipated growth, and has planned to make the event 40% larger than its 1997 predecessor. "Exhibitor interest has been keen from the outset. A little more than 50% of the available space has already been reserved, and we are fairly confident that our growth targets are realistic."
The show organisers are expecting to accommodate 100 exhibitors in 1 000m2 of floor space in the Culemborg Exhibition Centre on Cape Town's foreshore from 29 September to 1 October. However, their belief that the event will attract about 2,500 trade visitors may be conservative, given the current climb in levels of crime.
"After the record attendance at the Securex shows at Gallagher Estate in March and in Durban last October, perhaps our visitor projections for the Cape Town event are a little conservative - we certainly hope so, and we will do all we can to exceed them," says McCafferty.
Allan Hadfield believes that the Cape regional markets reflect the global trend towards improved management of risk and enhanced control of assets. "The same forces that are driving the industry in other parts of South Africa, and the world, are also apparent in this region.
"Computer based information technology has already had a tremendous impact on the products, services and solutions that are currently available. If anything, customer demand is likely to accelerate the influence of IT in these markets."
