SmartProtect has recently completed testing its mobile handheld card and fingerprint reader, which is integrated with Gallagher Command Centre. The system allows users to verify cardholders credentials such as card, fingerprint and picture.
This latest development is aimed at the mining and residential estate market, but can be used for temporary or low-cost access control solutions as well. Other applications include health and safety, medical details and time and attendance. A bonus is that the same unit can scan South African driver and vehicle licences and could provide a formidable visitor management solution with future development.
The handheld unit is very simple to use, users are presented with two options, either scan a card or search for cardholders. The system will display an image of the cardholder. Other custom fields that may be required by the end-user, such as health and safety information, can be provided. For verification, the cardholder must present their finger to biometrically verify their credentials.
