Fencing company wins major contracts

October 2001 News & Events

Following the announcement at the end of last year of the joint venture between SA local steel wire company, Bastion Wire and the world's largest steel wire manufacturer Bekaert, Bekaert Bastion has already won a few major contracts. These include:

* Vodacom: Bekaert Bastion erected its high security weld mesh fencing around four Vodacom substations in Gauteng. The company has now been awarded several key point installations for Vodacom substations.

* Moreland Developments - KZN: The first phase of fencing around La Lucia Ridge Office Park in Umhlanga - a project spearheaded by Moreland Developments - has been completed. The total project, worth R1m, is to supply high-quality green plastic-coated Bekaert Nylofor Medium Fencing, complete with fittings and posts.

* Richard's Bay Minerals: A major contract worth R2,1m was recently awarded to Bekaert Bastion by Richard's Bay Minerals to supply 5,9 km of high security 3 mm Bezinal-coated weld mesh fencing - as specified by worldwide government authorities. The perimeter fencing will be erected by a local fencing contractor, Security Fencing & Alarms.

* Pollsmoor Prison, Western Cape: Bekaert Bastion is supplying its 4 mm Bezinal-coated weld mesh. Worth around R1m, the fencing provides security whilst remaining cost-effective and easy to maintain. Its anti-climb design and unique panel fittings make the fence virtually impenetrable.
