The newest technology trade show to début in South Africa has won strong support from hi-tech vendors and speakers, who will shed light on three IT trends poised for major growth.
The upcoming IP EXPO already has a six-year track record in the UK, where its focus technologies of cloud computing, virtualisation and IP infrastructure are already widely used in corporate IT systems. Now the influx of additional bandwidth at cheaper prices has brought South Africa to a stage where these technologies will finally begin to pay dividends.
A big draw-card for IP EXPO is the calibre of speakers lined up to address numerous aspects of these sometimes complex technologies, including the security risks and solutions, the benefits of working in the cloud, the necessary infrastructure and the differing models and applications available.
The two-day event will serve as a forum where customers can meet the vendors, ask questions, attend informative presentations, assess the risks and solutions and make smart buying decisions to help their companies stay ahead, says exhibition manager Lizelle Christison.
Some of the more popular speaker sessions are likely to be those covering security features. Andrew Seldon, editor of Hi-Tech Security Solutions, will host a debate where industry leaders will share their knowledge in a panel discussion. The panellists will examine the threats inherent in cloud computing, the solutions designed to overcome those risks, the costs associated with this way of working, and the vital importance of user identification technologies. They will also look at where to start – and why cloud computing is something that companies ought to be starting.
Another session will challenge the trepidation often expressed by the heads of technology departments, who fear that their networks and crucial data will be exposed to outsiders once a third party supplier handles the delivery and storage of their applications and information. In fact cloud computing can reduce, rather than increase, the risks if it is integrated and managed properly, the speakers will argue.
Most security issues for cloud computing involve the perceived risk of migrating IT assets beyond the corporate firewall, says Craig Balding, the founder of cloudsecurity.org. At IP EXPO experts will highlight the security benefits that can be gained from moving to the cloud.
