Advocate Willie Hofmeyr's presentation on the work of the Assets Forfeiture Unit is bound to be a major drawcard of the forthcoming Security Association of South Africa (SASA) conference and workshop in Cape Town.
He will be delivering the principal address at the half-day SASA Congress on 30 September in Cape Town's civic centre, which has been scheduled to coincide with the second Cape Securex trade exhibition from 29 September - 1 October in Cape Town's Culemborg Exhibition Centre.
The initial part of Hofmeyr's presentation will cover The Proceeds of Crime Act and the work of his unit. The unit has recently risen to prominence following its headlined seizure of luxury goods in Durban and Gauteng which had been allegedly acquired with the proceeds of crime.
During the formal part of his presentation, it is expected that he will emphasise the importance of 'partnerships' with the private sector in the fight against commercial fraud, as well as examine the application of new legislation in combating this scourge.
Other topical issues to be discussed at the congress include the multi-million rand Safer Cities CCTV camera project in central Cape Town sponsored by Business Against Crime, with supporting comment from the Safer Cities project director Omar Vallee.
