High five for Sourcefire RNA from NSS Group

July 2005 News & Events

Concilium Technologies, the sole distributor of Sourcefire's realtime network defence, has announced that Sourcefire RNA has been awarded the highest ranking available from The NSS Group, receiving 'NSS Gold' certification in the Security Event Management category.

As only the fifth product to receive an NSS Gold designation in any category ever, Sourcefire RNA underwent thorough testing, and proved to provide users with a level of network insight and actionable data unavailable from other security products on the market. The NSS Group is one of the world's foremost independent security testing facilities.

Says Craig Rosewarne at Concilium, "For any security solution to be fully effective in today's environments, where wireless access points, PCs and servers are being added and removed on a continual basis, you need a solution that provides a realtime view of the network - at all times. That is the value proposition of RNA. It provides the visibility and context required to make all security solutions more effective."

Bob Walder, president of the NSS Group, comments, "NSS rarely awards the Gold certification and when we do, it is in recognition of a technology we feel has the ability to improve the way customers address their security capabilities. Sourcefire RNA actually surprised us with the visibility it provided into our network and all of the systems attached to it. The data it provides can greatly improve the effectiveness of a users' other security solutions, while also simplifying the management and monitoring of those devices by allowing the customer to filter out threats that do not pertain to a specific target."

These testing results follow The NSS Group's recent announcement that Sourcefire's IS3000 gigabit intrusion detection/prevention solution received the 'NSS Approved' ranking. The IS3000 was the only one of the five vendors recently evaluated that attained certification at the gigabit level. According to The NSS Group report, "the system performed consistently and reliably throughout the entire process". NSS also stated that the IS3000 is "a true 1 Gbps device under all normal network conditions", turning in a flawless performance in all real-world tests.

The NSS Gold certification is awarded rarely to those products which - having already achieved the standard required for NSS Approved - are judged to be particularly well specified in terms of advanced or unique features, and which offer outstanding value for money.
