GSC Systems releases fingerprint reader for ProxNet

February 2005 Access Control & Identity Management

GSC Systems is pleased to announce that a fingerprint reader for the ProxNet System has been released.

The 647-40 Biometric Reader is easily integrated with both new and existing ProxNet installations to enhance the security of the system. At each access point where fingerprint verification is required, the user will first present his card to a 684-10 proximity reader and then place his finger onto the sensor of the 647-40 unit for verification.

ProxNet will check the access rights and either allow or deny access and log the transaction.

Although fingerprints can be learnt and stored in the 647-40 reader by following the LED prompts on the unit, the process is greatly simplified by having a direct RS232/RS485 connection to a PC running the 647-40 software provided with the fingerprint reader. Using RS232 and a laptop allows fingerprint templates to be learnt at one unit and later uploaded to other units connected to the system. In this configuration the maximum number of fingerprint readers is only limited by the maximum number (254) of devices that ProxNet supports. The reader is capable of storing 4000 fingerprint templates.

ProxNet is distributed by Elvey International.
