Lenel Systems International has announced the commercial release of OnGuard ET Third Edition, the newest generation of the company's award-winning OnGuard Total Security Knowledge Management Solution.
Among the significant enhancements introduced with OnGuard ET Third Edition are network video recorder failover support, support for the MPEG-4 multimedia standard, Lenel's OnGuard OpenCard format, a three-factor access control verification reader, AES 128-bit communication encryption, in-line smartcard encoding, point of sale integration and expanded support for third-party devices and systems.
"With the release of OnGuard ET Third Edition, Lenel continues to lead the industry in responding to the complex needs of today's security professionals, with technological achievement, flexibility, high performance and value in open systems," says Rudy Prokupets, Lenel's chief technology officer and executive vice president of Research and Development.
The solution includes dual path failover support for the Lenel Network Video Recorder (LNVR), a key enhancement to the OnGuard Video feature set, and also offers the ability to configure a second LNVR for a camera to failover to in the event that the primary LNVR fails.
The Lenel OnGuard OpenCard format is the first offering in the security industry that creates a non-proprietary, open standard for the information encoded on smartcard credentials. The OpenCard format offers users the opportunity to achieve hardware and system independence, by ensuring that they are not restricted to one vendor for their readers or cards.
In creating the OpenCard format, Lenel has defined a complete suite of applications that can be used for contactless smartcard solutions, including access control, biometrics, demographics and PIN management. OpenCard supports in-line encoding during the badge printing process. The format creates a specification for true smartcard interoperability across all systems and applications for which smartcards are used.
The OpenCard format is supported by the leading biometric vendors and reader manufacturers.
Lenel has expanded its hardware portfolio to include the Lenel BioGuard LNL-BIO-007 Reader, a first-of-its-kind, virtually indestructible, indoor/outdoor, vandal-proof access control verification reader. The Lenel BioGuard Reader incorporates three forms of authentication: a PIN keypad, a concealable fingerprint sensor and (optionally) a proximity reader.
OnGuard ET Third Edition integrates support for V-Station readers from Bioscrypt, which require PIN and fingerprint to gain access. The new release also supports the Wyreless Access Panel Interface Module PIM-485-16-OTD from Recognition Source, to which up to 16 Wyreless readers can be connected. The use of Wyreless solutions greatly simplifies the installation of access control systems, and substantially reduces the cost per door.
Other important new features of OnGuard ET Third Edition include in-line smartcard encoding, Cisco alarm interface controller support, a new layer of security for encrypted communications, point of sale integration with transaction verification systems, support for new fire alarm panel, expanded elevator support and cardholder and visitor enrolment automation.
