ADT Security's Fire Systems Division recently installed fire detection and carbon dioxide (CO2) protection systems in the MCC Room at Iscor Vanderbijlpark, North Works Coil Inspection Line for Kentz Automation and Drives. The detection and protection systems have been put in place to ensure the safety of the electrical equipment in the control centre.
Kentz senior project engineer, Paul van Rooyen says, "We decided to go with ADT as it is a reputable company and provides extensive technical solutions."
The smoke detectors are connected to a fire control panel that sends a signal to the CO2 cylinders when two or more smoke detectors are activated. The CO2 gas is discharged into the room and lowers the percentage levels of oxygen to such a level where a fire cannot be sustained.
"The technical work done by ADT in the past has been of very high quality," says van Rooyen. "Our needs have been met with professionalism and at a good price."
Engineering specialist, Pyromet Technologies, has awarded ADT's Fire Division the prestigious contract to install fire detection as well as CO2 gas and water fire fighting systems throughout a new furnace under construction in the Burgersfort area. One of few companies specialising in smelter and furnace designs in South Africa, Pyromet Technologies has been contracted to install the furnace at the Dilokong Chrome mine owned by Asa Metals. The fire systems were planned to be commissioned at the end of October 2003, before final commissioning of the furnace was to take place.
