Another first for AST

October 2003 News & Events

Alien Systems & Technologies has announced that its locally designed and manufactured 'Pyroshield' product has been chosen as one of the winners for the prestigious 2003 SABS Design Institute awards. This is another first for AST and the South African fire protection industry.

Environmentally friendly, Pyroshield is an effective fire extinguishing system that has revolutionised the fire protection industry. Pyroshield extinguishing systems are designed to extinguish fires by lowering the oxygen content below the level that supports combustion while still supporting human life. The Pyroshield agent contains a mixture of two naturally occurring gasses: nitrogen and argon. It does not contribute to global warming, it exhibits no ozone depletion potential, nor does it contribute unique chemical species with extended atmospheric lifetimes.

Typical hazards protected by the Pyroshield system include computer rooms, sub-floors, tape storage areas, telecommunications/switchgear, vaults, process equipment and all electronic areas where the equipment is either very sensitive or irreplaceable.

Pyroshield takes the honours. It was drinks all round as the Pyroshield fire extinguishing system from AST took an SABS design award for 2003 in what is possibly a first for the fire protection industry in South Africa.
