CBIA is hosting a competitive intelligence (CI) seminar in Cape Town at the Cullinan Hotel, V&A Waterfront from 1 to 2 October 2003. The two-day intensive seminar is led by Douglas Bernhardt, managing director of iMentor Management Consulting SA from Geneva, Switzerland. The seminar is billed as Cape Town's premier competitive intelligence event for 2003. CBIA and Bernhardt also presented Cape Town's first international seminar on the topic during 2002.
Some of the seminar objectives are to allow attendees to gain a practical understanding of the value-added role intelligence plays in competitive strategy and the strategy process of firms, to discover what competitive intelligence means in terms of activity, organisation, and deliverables, or 'product' in world class companies and to learn how strategically relevant intelligence can be applied in each participant's company to help outwit, outmanoeuvre and outperform rivals.
Bernhardt is well known internationally for his involvement in competitive intelligence, consulting and training. He teaches the MBA course 'Business Intelligence & Corporate Security' at the Archamps (France) campus of the Thunderbird in Switzerland and from November 2003 will also teach CI at IMD Lausanne, Switzerland. He is the author of three books on competitive intelligence. The latest book, Competitive Intelligence: Acquiring and using corporate intelligence and counterintelligence was published during 2003 by the Financial Times as part of its executive briefing series. He was a member of the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP) Board of Directors from 1996 to 1999. He has led scores of seminars in Europe, the United States, Asia Pacific, the Middle East and South Africa.
CBIA was founded during 1994 to provide competitive intelligence solutions, training and services to the corporate sector in South Africa and elsewhere. The company is at the forefront of the development of CI in this part of the world and was instrumental in the formation of the South African Association of Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SAACIP). CBIA has been providing world class training events since 2000.
After attending this seminar, participants will be able to:
* Use intelligence to help create and sustain winning strategies.
* Integrate intelligence in each phase of their company's strategy process.
* Apply systematic frameworks for defining intelligence requirements.
* Use analytical methods and tools that lead to 'actionable' competitive insight and foresight.
* Leverage the intelligence experience of organisations in Europe, North America, and elsewhere.
* Identify the resources needed to build and manage an effective intelligence system within their organisations.
* Initiate more effective counterintelligence and security practices.
Five lucky seminar attendees will each receive a signed copy of the Financial Times Executive Briefing on Competitive Intelligence by Douglas Bernhardt, published in Great Britain during January 2003. The executive briefing is a concise manual exploring current and emerging issues, combining authoritative research with practical relevance on competitive intelligence and counterintelligence.
