Local distributors and manufacturers of electric fencing products have formed the Electric Fencing and Components Manufacturers Association. The main objectives of the association are:
1. To develop minimum quality and surety standards for the design and manufacture of electric fencing equipment and components.
2. To develop a system to ensure minimum quality and surety standards in the installation and maintenance of electric fencing equipment and components.
It is envisaged that once these initial objectives have been achieved, that a joint partnership will be formed with the South African Insurance Association, for the implementation of these standards in the marketplace.
This would have large implications for industry where, in the future, installations would either comply with and have insurance approval and be registered for insurance purposes as such or not meet these requirements.
Membership is currently limited to organisations or representatives of such organisations involved in the manufacture of electric fencing equipment and associated components. But in the future, membership will be extended to installers and all interested parties. Currently there is no joining fee, but this is destined to change shortly.
