Hot on the heels of the Security Industry Alliance (SIA) announcement that it will take legal action against the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) concerning its fee increases, PSIRA has responded through its director, Manabela Chauke.
In the response, Chauke notes that PSIRA views SIA as a “key stakeholder” and reiterates its position to engage in dialogue rather than involve the courts. The response also notes that “in an attempt to demonstrate and cement our commitment to dialogue”, the regulatory body undertakes to review the implementation date of the new fees to “within the first quarter” of 2012.
Chauke ends by opening the door to more discussions with SIA.
Let’s hope SIA takes up this offer and the two organisations engage in a vigorous debate. A solution that has the commitment of the industry as well as PSIRA will always be a better outcome than one enforced by the courts.
