Affordability spells new trend in access control

February 2001 Access Control & Identity Management

Traditionally, the costs of access control systems have dictated that they are luxuries and can only be afforded by large corporations, strategic military installations and government departments.

However, with crime escalating sharply, much research and development has taken place, driving down the costs with some companies introducing affordable access control systems without compromising on features and functionality.

One such company, Evolving Management Solutions (EMS), headquartered in Midrand near Johannesburg, has launched a brand new access control range in SA by securing the exclusive local rights to the Syris range.

Marketing Director Steve Mason says that the high crime rate today has determined that access control systems are no longer luxury items, but essential tools to ensure the safety of staff and possessions. Insurance companies too are starting to insist on adequate safety measures.

"We have been fortunate to secure the rights to Syris which slashes more than 25% off conventional access control system bills. It is easy-to-install, fully functional and supports up to four doors per controller with networking abilities for larger installations," says Mason.

He points out that the product is easily expandable while connectivity to a PC for improved functionality and auditing is also available.

The Syris system comprises a standalone system which includes a keypad controller, reader interface, four HID proximity readers and 20 proximity cards. The on-line version adds Syris software for Windows and a PC connection kit. "Virtually any control application can be selected," says Mason. "You can programme up to 6000 cardholders per controller and benefit from the latest intelligent technology." For a limited time EMS is providing the Syris product at a special introductory offer.
