Stellenbosch University is recognised as one of the four top research universities in South Africa. The university lies tucked away in the picturesque Jonkershoek Valley in the heart of the Western Cape Winelands.
The challenge the University faced was how to seamlessly introduce an Impro IXP400i access control system without revising the student enrolment process. Currently, there are multiple student enrolment stations in various departments and rewriting the enrolment process would have caused open rebellion.
The task was therefore straightforward. Design an interface that would automatically update the access control database when a student was entered into the university student database, and simultaneously allow for the automatic assignment of the relevant access control rights. To complicate matters, the university has other systems which will also need the data. The integration software needed to take all these systems into account, while having zero impact on the administration staff.
With the new installation in place, the Stellenbosch University was able to closely monitor the comings and goings of its students. It could also control access to the various sections of the university, limiting access to sections that were off bounds to certain faculty members and students alike.
The IXP400i system at the university, along with the innoVizion software has left the door wide open for future enhancements to the security system. The IXP400i system supports biometric integration with the Sagem readers. It also supports integration with Ziton fire detection solutions, Caddx intrusion monitoring solutions, as well as certain CCTV solutions. innoVizion’s platform will also allow for higher levels of access validation should the requirement arise.
