Fleet management and information technology company, DigiCore Holdings, recently announced that one of its clients, the Australian Waterways Authority NSW, has been awarded a prestigious global award for excellence in applying geographic information system (GIS) technology in the protection and management of Australia's navigable waters.
Competing against 6000 organisations worldwide, the award was presented to Waterways Authority in San Diego, California at the Twentieth Annual ESRI International User Conference, the largest gathering of GIS professionals in the world.
"Our realtime vessel trading technology, C-Track, with DGPS (digital global positioning system) integration, allows Waterways Authority to monitor recreational and commercial boating, as well as the effective protection of eco-sensitive wetlands in the enforcement of marine laws and environmental legislation. With our hardware and software at the heart of the solution receiving international recognition, the C-Track's brand has been propelled into a market we have only identified recently," states DigiCore Holdings Group Managing Director, Nick Vlok.
A geographic information system is a computer-based tool for mapping and analysing objects and events. It combines the power of a database with the visualisation capabilities offered by maps. DigiCore has designed and developed a variety of vehicle management and monitoring systems using satellite positioning, GSM cellular systems and other advanced communication technologies.
According to Vlok, the C-Track GPS/GSM asset management software technology is the world's most advanced realtime control system for vehicles and other mobile assets and is a comprehensive fleet-management system, monitoring not just geographical position but also many other parameters such as odometer readings, engine speed, oil pressure, harsh braking, cargo temperature, as well as bar code and RFID scanning for cargo monitoring.
