Security issues within ports have been placed high on the agenda for the forthcoming International Association of Ports and Harbours conference in the light of the 11 September 2001 attacks in the US and the war in Iraq.
The conference, being hosted by the SA National Ports Authority, will be held in Durban from 24-30 May.
International Association of Airport and Seaport Police Africa region president Nico du Plessis said the US attack changed the way the world conducted its business.
The International Association of Airport and Seaport Police is the only law enforcement agency dealing specifically with law enforcement and security in airports as well as security in harbours.
