The LOKKIT PC base lock secures the cabinet of a PC onto the floor and/or wall and is aimed at preventing PC CPU theft.
According to Neville Maré, Gauteng director of LOKKIT SA, which launched the patented product earlier this year, PC CPU theft is a major organised crime with components being sold as new onto the worldwide market. "In South Africa, rampant PC CPU theft devastates businesses, losing them production time, valuable data and equipment. However, the biggest losers are the insurers. Historically, PC theft is a multimillion rand blow to the insurance industry every year, to the extent that they are jointly prepared to support products which can curb their losses," he says.
As a result, Maré says the LOKKIT PC base lock has now been certified by Santam and Mutual and Federal and approved by the South African Insurance Association (SAIA).
"Each installation is done by a certified installer and receives an 'Installation Certificate' which is required by insurers as proof of the approved lock installation. Clients will then be able to negotiate insurance premium reductions or hold down future escalation on their PC CPU insurance," Maré says.
LOKKIT products are manufactured in Cape Town. The company is currently appointing agents throughout South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. Certified installers will operate countrywide.
