DatroTech has deployed an integrated access control, asset tracking and asset management system at the Department of Statistics' head office in Pretoria.
Combining active, passive and bar code technology using the recognised 'Powered by Wavetrend' core hardware platform and AssetMan software developed by Wireless Identification Technologies, the department has a state-of-the-art security solution.
Says Rene Kilner, a director at DatroTech: "The system comprises access control for about 1000 individuals using Wavetrend's hardware architecture.
"For the active asset tracking for high value assets we supplied Wavetrend's patented active asset tag, the only tag in the world that will transmit off a metal surface without suffering from significant attenuation. This is especially designed for IT-based equipment."
Integrated into the asset management and access control management platform are hand geometry readers - offering one-on-one identification verification - as well as CCTV surveillance camera equipment.
"There is no doubt that the Department of Statistics has pioneered the way in using leading edge technology to safeguard its premises, personnel, visitors and assets. This is further endorsed by the National Intelligence Agency, which conducted extensive evaluation studies and approved the installation," says Ms Kilner.
