Zebra Technologies recently announced that it had entered into an OEM agreement with 3M's Safety & Security Systems Division to supply the company's new model S820i secure ID card printing and lamination system exclusively to 3M for sale as the 3M MAXSecure, Secure Card Production System.
The S820i design incorporates Zebra's newly developed intelligent printing system, which deploys RFID technology for the prevention of fraud and duplication of ID cards by unauthorised personnel.
Designed specifically to utilise 3M Secure Card material, the S820i produces up to 90 cards per hour with edge to edge high resolution full-colour and either single or dual-sided lamination that bonds protective layers to the cards through a unique fusing process.
To ensure maximum card security, the 3M Secure Card features three levels of image security:
1. A visible security image that changes colour and intensity when the card is tilted.
2. A bright retro-reflective image visible under focused light.
3. A hidden security pattern embedded in the card substrate that is visible only under ultra-violet light.
Applications for such cards also include voter registration programs, law enforcement and access and identification for educational institutions, industry and transportation.
