EST releases new panel

July 2002 Fire & Safety

Edwards Systems Technology (EST) has announced the release of the new EST3 control panel. The EST3 is the culmination in life safety development, effectively combining powerful distributed intelligence with simple set-up and maintenance, making it suitable for both new installations and retrofit applications.

Capable of handling up to 160 000 intelligent devices, the EST3 builds on the success of distributed intelligence pioneered by EST with its line of Signature Series multisensor detectors.

Features include response times of less than three seconds; second-by-second diagnostics and a full eight channels of digital multiplexed audio over a single pair of wires.

Further, the oversized 168-character LCD display offers operators the big picture at a glance, or can indicate event details right down to the device level.

One of EST3's biggest breakthroughs is its programming ease. Installers no longer need to reference numerical addresses and link complex output functions. With EST3, programming is easy, using objects and rules language instructions, including wild cards.

EST3's system architecture includes a multipriority peer-to-peer token-passing network that automatically reconfigures into sub-networks in the event of a communications break. When this happens, the system continues to operate as a series of standalone networks that maintain life safety protection.

EST3 also offers a network capacity of up to 64 panels with up to 2500 signature devices each, as well as system annunciation or discrete message routing to any panel.
