Durban's new R1,4-billion retail development, Gateway, which was developed by Old Mutual Properties, has been equipped with an advanced gas leakage detection and alarm system from SureGas.
This locally-developed and manufactured technology provides round-the-clock monitoring of gas reticulation throughout the complex, including the almost 40 restaurants and fast food outlets. Extreme sensitivity allows the SureGas system to detect the smallest gas leak and, depending on the requirement, either shuts down the gas supply automatically or immediately raise an alarm.
Colin Devenish, technical services manager at Old Mutual Properties, says: "It is part of our philosophy to ensure the safety of tenants and customers alike. It was therefore imperative to install a sophisticated gas detection system, which was supplied by SureGas, as this complements our already stringent safety systems on site."
Developed in conjunction with the University of Cape Town, the Cape Technikon and engineering consultants, SureGas products have been tested and approved by SABS as well as relevant European and Australian standards for all popular types of gases, including LPG, butane, propane, natural and coal. Many official bodies and organisations in the SA gas industry have endorsed SureGas equipment, including the LP Gas Association, Fire Prevention Association, SA insurance industry and fire chiefs of various provinces.
