The HSR-X200P hard disk video recorder from Sony can record many weeks of digital images, and has the added benefits of simultaneous record/playback capability and remote control over standard networks.
According to Sony Broadcast & Professional SA product manager Dave Schultz: "The HSR-X200P is a one-channel recorder that uses M-JPEG compression to assure superb image resolution and subjective quality, with a high refresh rate up to a maximum of 50 fields per second. Picture quality can be selected from five different levels, providing a horizontal resolution of more than 500 TV lines in 'Hyper' mode."
The one-channel recorder can record without interruption for 565 hours (in high-resolution mode), making it suitable for unattended monitoring of a scene over a number of days. At lower frame rates, recording times can be pushed further to 20 000 hours. The recorder's 80 Gb hard disk storage capacity can be doubled with the addition of an optional second drive to boost recording times even further.
"Simultaneous recording and playback allows an operator to view captured video without interrupting a recording, a valuable benefit in security operations where a crucial scene cannot afford to be missed," notes Schultz. "Chosen images can be copied to a pre-defined data storage area on the recorder's hard disk and protected against overwriting.
"An ideal 'digital upgrade' for existing analog CCTV systems as well as new installations, the recorder can be integrated into VCR-Multiplexer systems from Sony and other manufacturers, replacing traditional analog VCRs to provide increased control flexibility and picture management," he adds.
