Corporate governance
Society is now demanding greater transparency and accountability from corporations regarding their nonfinancial affairs. The King Committee on corporate governance was established by the Institute of Directors in South Africa, this resulted in the Code of Corporate Practices and Conduct. The aim of the code is to achieve openness and accountability in both large corporations and smaller businesses.
When Richard Wilkinson from the Institute of Directors spoke at the last ESDA meeting he expressed the fact that corporate governance is not only for companies on the stock exchange or large public entities but all companies are encouraged to adopt the principles of corporate governance.
The King Report has been recognised internationally as one of the most comprehensive publications on the subject of corporate governance that embraces the inclusive or stakeholder approach.
