Frank Street, importers and distributors of CCTV equipment and Kilosec Security, a Pinetown-based security company have installed a RoadRecorder system to a bus for the Durban Transport Department.
The RoadRecorder 5000 is a sophisticated security device designed for use in a mobile environment such as a bus, a truck; cash in transit vehicle or a train. Video images are fed to the RoadRecorder 5000 from cameras mounted inside or outside a vehicle. The images, along with other important data such as time and date information, are stored on the RoadRecorder's removable hard drive.
Five colour pinhole cameras were fitted to the bus to monitor activities in the bus such as driver behaviour, collection of bus fares, with facing the front of the bus recording the road ahead checking to see if the bus stops at designated bus stops etc. The images recorded on the removable hard drive can then be viewed on a PC.
The system starts recording when the vehicle ignition is turned on. The RoadRecorder will go through a self-test and then starts recording. Once the ignition is turned off the RoadRecorder will record for a further two minutes and then turn off. The RoadRecorder is designed to operate without intervention by the vehicle operator.
Once the system starts recording, it will record at the rate and in the sequence programmed by the RoadRecorder PrimaView viewer system software. The systems records at a rate of 6 fp/s per camera.
