Webb Industries, a Jasco group company, is to market a range of infrared link equipment throughout South Africa and the Middle East.
The company has been appointed by PAV Data Systems of the UK to market advanced equipment which will assist the cellular network operators in meeting the increasing capacity demands. According to Webb Industries, an infrared link can be established within 5 h thereby substantially improving productivity.
In the early '80s PAV began producing one of the first infrared transmission systems designed for the interconnection of CCTV systems. This system proved highly successful and achieved worldwide sales.
The experience and knowledge gained in this field enabled PAV to commence further research and development into an infrared data transmission system designed for the interconnection of computer networks. The results obtained enabled the product to be further developed and resulted in a commercially marketable product which combined a high degree of reliability at a cost-effective price.
Data transmission products
From this the company began the manufacture and marketing of a limited product range of infrared data transmission systems and recently this range has grown comprehensively and now incorporates equipment which can connect computer networks, telecommunications systems and GSM cellular telecommunications systems.
The products manufactured by the company are acknowledged as market leaders within the telecommunications industry and Webb Industries is confident that the acquisition of the PAV range will enable local cellular network companies to expedite the network rollout.
Not only will the PAV range be available from Webb throughout southern Africa but the company's recently acquired Middle East operation, On-Line Distribution, will supply the PAV products to 14 countries from Egypt to Pakistan.
