Viisage Technology, a leader in the emerging field of biometrics technology and in providing identification systems and solutions, has announced that it has been awarded a new project to provide a police surveillance system in Western Europe. The first phase of the project is to demonstrate and pilot the technology that will be used to identify and monitor criminals. Viisage's patented Face-in-the-Crowd products and technology are ideally suited for this type of application.
Tom Colatosti, Viisage President and CEO, said, "Our Face-in-the-Crowd products are leadership technology - no one else in the industry has our capability to recognise reatime images in a crowd from video." Colatosti went on to say, "This project is another application of our facial recognition projects in Illinois, where we have the world's largest deployed facial recognition database; and with the Massachusetts Department of Social Services. These projects have enabled us to widen the technological window for new and exciting applications and new business opportunities." Colatosti added, "We are pleased with the expanding level of market interest in our facial recognition biometrics technology across a broad spectrum of domestic and international markets. Also, interestingly, facial recognition is becoming an important competitive differentiation with many of our prospects in our traditional markets."
