Recognition Systems, represented in South Africa by Power Controls, now brings the accuracy and convenience of biometric technology easily within reach of time and attendance applications. According to Clive Handley, Director of Power Controls, hand geometry has proven to be a practical and precise solution in operations that range from coal mines to clean rooms.
Says Handley, "They're smarter than card-based terminals. There are no cards to create, administer, carry, or lose. The HandPunch verifies employee's identities in less than one second, based on the unique size and shape of their hands."
Adds Handley "Because no one can punch in or out for fellow employees, the system reduces time theft and improves payroll accuracy. There's no question any more; employees have to be there to punch."
An important HR communication tool
Continues Handley, "Beyond a simple time clock, the HandPunch provide definable management keys that allow data collection when employees punch. Common uses include department transfers, tips collected, job codes, or pay codes. One can even send messages to individual employees or they can review their past punches."
Key features include:
p Communication options - The HandPunch allows multiple units to be connected at a site via RS485 wiring, optional Ethernet module, or dial-up modem.
p Bell schedules - A bell schedule lets users program the day, time, and duration of a series of bells. The bells can be programmed to signal the beginning or end of a shift, lunch or break.
p Door control - The HandPunch provides the capability to unlock and monitor a door. Global time zones may be used to restrict employee access.
