Lock manufacturer Yale-Union Security South Africa has welcomed the acquisition of Viro Locks, whose brands include Solid and Esco, by its international parent company Assa Abloy. Assa Abloy bought Viro Locks for R37,22 million last month to expand its operation in South Africa.
Yale-Union Security, which was bought by Assa Abloy in August last year, said that its association with Viro Locks, which includes padlocks and cylinder locks as its main products, would be beneficial. Given Viro Lock SA's strength in the padlock, OEM lock and cylinder market, and Yale-Union's strength in housing locksets and architectural ironmongery, they are confident that the South African companies will complement each other.
"We are very excited about the acquisition of Viro Locks by our parent company Assa Abloy," said Nicholas Argo, Sales and Marketing Director of Yale-Union. "South Africa is a region with growing security needs and we believe that our mutual association can only serve to strengthen our market share."
Swedish company Assa Abloy has grabbed 10% of the global lock manufacturing market over the past two years by snapping up more than a dozen rivals.
