ADT’S Smart CCTV and remote monitoring.
ADT now offers SmartCCTV systems that transmit data in real-time to its monitoring control rooms, 24 hours a day, with by-exception alert triggers. The system also provides clients with 24-hour access to video data directly from their Web-enabled device or smartphone.
“CCTV is acknowledged as an exceptionally effective crime prevention and protection system,” says Russell Downing, MD of ADT Business Solutions. “The newest digital technology enables footage to be used in powerful new ways. For example, you can select an area on the screen and search specifically for movement in pre-defined spaces. Visual information can also be shared over a business intranet or accessed remotely, giving the client additional control and added peace of mind.”
ADT has partnered with suppliers to provide clients with high-tech remote monitoring technology that includes CCTV cameras linked to onsite devices that transmit data via the Internet to ADT’s monitoring control room. “The system works on exception-based monitoring. When an out-of-ordinary event is picked up, a trigger is sent to the control room where the operators have a full view of the client’s site layout,” comments Downing. “The system also links with the alarm system, passive infrared detectors, beams and the electricity mains. Should there be a power failure the system will send an alert to the operators immediately.”
In addition, CCTV cameras and detectors can also be used for property perimeter protection. The CCTV cameras operate at 25 frames per second, ensuring the footage is of an extremely high quality. Should the perimeter be breached, on-site controllers in a secure area and remote operators are immediately alerted and the client contacted.
“What is even more effective is the audio challenge feature where the operators have the ability to speak directly to the intruder via a speaker horn located on the premises, letting them know that a response team is en route. This has proved to be a highly effective deterrent. The operators even have access to devices such as lighting, sirens, and smoke and pepper spray systems.”
Downing says that clients are able to opt for 4, 8 or 16 CCTV channels or they can install several cameras initially, using only some, while keeping the others for future expansion. “The options are extensive and range in price which means there is an option for each individual set-up. The installation and set-up can be done in two to three days, depending on the complexity of the installation, after which it is all systems go.”
He adds that the initial set-up and installation of the system needs to be professionally done in order for the client to get the best out of the system and believes that doing a security audit of the premises and communicating with the client about their needs will ensure the correct operating procedures are put in place.
“Besides installing the latest technology, it should also be monitored by specifically trained personnel. It needs to be backed by technicians who not only understand its workings but are able to operate CCTV feeds in dynamic new ways,” he adds.
With the advancement of technology, Downing says the benefits of CCTV are better than ever before. Not only is it effective in all areas and light conditions but its superb digital quality allows for unsurpassed viewing recording and archiving. “The quality of the recordings is such that they can be used as evidence in a court of law, making CCTV not only a valuable tool in crime prevention and detection, but also crucial to ensuring that the legal system can run its due course should a criminal case arise. These systems are also low maintenance and far more cost-effective than ever before.”
