Maintenance contract serviced by FireSpec.
FireSpec handles the ongoing maintenance with the University of Cape Town at all three upper, middle and lower Rondebosch campuses. UCT’s campuses have evolved over many decades and its security systems are consequently a mix of different generation technologies. Over recent years, the need for more sophisticated security systems has arisen and the servicing of this diverse array is in the hands of the FireSpec team with technicians located at all three campuses.
The company specialises in both active and passive fire protection and security services, ranging from the installing of hardware, to extensive servicing and maintenance contracts of existing systems.
Fire protection and control is also an area of critical importance, parallel to security. A mix of different systems was installed by the university and upgraded as needed to meet the increasing safety requirements of the new South African building codes.
Examples of the integrated systems that are subject to maintenance include:
* Main computer centre – fire alarm and evacuation systems, including a fire and smoke detector and suppression system in the main server room.
* Access control at the main library – by a set of turnstiles and electronically facilitated by card-readers.
* Passive fire control systems inside certain libraries.
* CCTV monitoring and information streaming into control centres, along with fire control data, coordinated by the Maestro system.
