Halon replacement fire protection fluid launches at IFSEC.
Brigit Systems launched the 3M Novec 2130 halon replacement fire protection fluid at IFSEC.
In recent years, concerns about environmental issues – especially those relating to climate change – have led to increasing regulatory scrutiny of compounds with high global warming potentials. These so-called greenhouse gases include several conventional halon replacements, such as HFCs. The 3M Novec 2130 has a Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 1, the lowest GWP for any halocarbon alternative to halon.
Because its use concentration is much lower than its No Observable Adverse Effects level (NOAEL), it offers the widest margin of safety of any viable halon replacement available on the market today. The fluid replaces one of the required components for fire to enable extinguishing. It evaporates 50 times faster than water and has a low freezing point. In addition, there have been no observable toxicology effects. Once activated the gas is circulated quickly, ensuring that damage to property and threat to life is minimised.
Other advantages include the fact that it is easy to transport as it is a liquid; filling station requirements are lower; it is environmentally friendly; it is non-corrosive and compatible with materials of construction which leads to lowered maintenance requirements.
Brigit also launched a number of new aspirating smoke detection systems from principal Wagner Germany.
