When looking at fire detection and alarm systems, top of the wants list for almost every building owner, facilities manager or agent is reliability, closely followed by flexibility and economy.
For applications such as office buildings, retail facilities, hotels, hospitals, care facilities,
multi-occupancy developments, residential complexes, etc, modern multicriteria detectors are a good choice. By looking at several criteria indicative of a fire – typically smoke and a fast rise in temperature – they are good at discriminating against false alarms. The best types, such as the Fike Range, have little difficulty in meeting the often–quoted requirement of less than one false alarm per 100 detectors per year.
The Fike range of multipoint detectors have another big benefit, they are flexible in operation and can be readily adjusted to match their working environment. This means that if a false alarm occurs, the detector can be fine-tuned to guard against a recurrence. Also, if conditions within a room change permanently, there is no need to fit a new detector. All that is needed is to adjust the existing detector, which is much more cost effective.
