Automatic and scheduled focusing

July 2011 Surveillance

The days of manually focusing and refocusing cameras is drawing to a close.

Have you ever gone through the frustrating task of manually adjusting the focus of your security camera? It is that micro-millimetre adjustment that you just cannot seem to get just right. And once you have it perfect there is always the inevitable bump against the camera that negates all the work that you have just completed.

Now imagine going through this process where you have multiple cameras and the man hours involved in getting the focus just right.

Fortunately this is no longer something you have to settle for. Network security cameras are constantly evolving and becoming more intelligent and one of these innovations is the introduction of automatic and scheduled focusing.

Automatic focusing gives the camera the ability to focus perfectly within a couple of seconds, once the camera is installed. On the other hand, scheduled focusing allows a user to set up times and dates, when the cameras will run automatic focusing to ensure that the picture remains clear.

The benefits of these capabilities include:

* Cutting down maintenance cost and time: you can ensure that your system of network security cameras always give you the best possible images within only a couple of seconds. This was previously a labour intensive exercise that could take days to complete depending on the number of cameras.

* Many cameras have a protective housing in which it is installed that brings with it challenges that affect the optics of the lens. When installing the camera into the housing, the camera’s focus is set before the housing is placed over the camera. Once it is inside the housing and has to focus through additional glass you lose focus. Automatic focus will not have this issue as the focus is set automatically once completely installed.

* Scheduled focusing ensures that your cameras are checked regularly and the best possible image is always available with no additional maintenance headaches.

* Automatic and scheduled focusing make it easier to get the perfect image, especially with new HD sensors, where focusing is becoming increasingly difficult as fine movements can throw it out.

* Every enhancement that we make on security cameras improves depth-of-field, meaning that objects closer and further from the focus point also become clearer.

Automatic and scheduled focusing is taking out the arduous time and labour spent on the maintenance of your security network and focus on the running of your business.
