In a previous edition, the SAQA registered qualification in Electronic Security was published.
This qualification will, for the first time in the private security industry, give a CCTV/access control/alarm technician a recognised qualification and will be legislated that such a qualification or skills programme will be a requirement. The skills programmes that are all unit standard based also cater for management in CCTV, access control, alarm systems, fire detection, metal detection and even in satellite tracking.
This indeed is a great step forward for the electronic security industry in South Africa and I believe put us ahead internationally.
In order to become a training provider in this field, it will become necessary to be accredited with SASSETA. If the accreditation is successful then the relevant training material for the qualification will be made available to such training providers free of charge.
