Electrical protection and safety incorporates many different applications and methods.
In latest technology, protection schemes are being built to make use of an Ethernet network transporting what is known as 'goose' packets. These are the type of packets that travel across the Ethernet network and have the messaging information relevant to the protection data. It is imperative that this information is able to have fast, reliable transportation to its destination without having any errors inserted into the stream due to the high EMI (electro magnetic interference).
So the configuration and reliable transport of the protection data in an Ethernet network is of vital importance, this will in turn play a big role in safety.
Another method of adding to safety is remote monitoring through industrial IP cameras. With the right IP camera solution, an engineer can integrate an IP camera – through the use of an Active X controller – into any existing scada/HMI.
The benefits here are to be able to visually confirm the site is safe before remotely.
It is crucial to have an IP camera management system that is able to correctly control the bandwidth requirements of all relevant IP cameras to ensure the throughput of the protection data will not be changed in any way.
