Sandton Square has stepped up the fight against crime in shopping centres by installing VideoSpider, a digital security system from Xantium.
Anton Dekker, Administration Manager for Sandton Square, says the organisation elected to move from its existing analog security system to a digital environment after evaluating several proposals. "We chose VideoSpider because of its competitive price, ease of operation, level of skills and support provided by Xantium. In addition, Xantium met our need for urgency by installing VideoSpider within a week."
Sandton Square is running VideoSpider with colour cameras situated at each of the parking pay stations throughout the centre. This enables Dekker and the security contractors to monitor the pay stations on a round-the-clock basis. Images from eight cameras can be viewed simultaneously on a PC monitor. "Now that the installation is complete, we are in the process of linking the system to our wide area network. Once this has been done, I will be able to watch all the pay stations from my office," Dekker says.
VideoSpider is a multichannel video surveillance system which uses MPEG encoding technology combined with state-of-the-art security and surveillance techniques to deliver an all-digital solution. The system offers realtime multichannel video digitising, compression, viewing, transmission over networks and local or remote datastorage. It can also remotely control camera panning, tilting, zoom and focus.
Xantium is the official local distributor for Korean company Darim Vision.
