Johannesburg-based Trolley Scan recently announced the development of an RFID module version of its low power UHF transponder that has put into commercial production.
Offering the power advantages of single chip versions, but built from 11 commercially available components, the new modules incorporate the EcoTag patented technology allowing reading ranges of up to 6 m from low power readers by needing just 1 mW of RF power to operate the transponder.
An evaluation system has been developed which provides sample tags and a reader, providing all the equipment such that a user can plug the reader into the serial port of a computer and apply mains power to have a fully operational EcoTag scanning system. The evaluation system allows users to fully test the suitability of EcoTag technology for their applications before committing to EcoTag UHF transponder technology.
