Swiss company, Fastcom Technology, recently announced the first smart airlock control system (SMACS). Developed by Fastcom's security business unit, the SMACS is a video based alarm system that acts as an automatic door opening control and surveillance system for intruder and object detection in banks or other secured areas.
The company's new solution for monitoring an airlock is as a result of state-of-the-art image processing algorithms (patents are pending). The SMACS is an 'open surveillance system' based on a common digital CCTV camera and a standard PC, and has no mechanical parts. The SMACS may be used in parallel with other access control systems such as biometric identification systems. The system guarantees a high passage frequency through the airlock, since the necessary calculations are done in a fraction of a second.
The captured image is processed in a standard PC with algorithms for contour and motion detection. The system detects the exact number of persons and objects in the airlock and if necessary, triggers an alarm. The current status of the system, ie the status of the airlock entrance, the status of the airlock per se, the number of persons, object left behind or an empty airlock is continuously transmitted to the local access control system via digital interfaces.
The SMACS can be installed as a standalone working system, a system connected to a local network and/or a video recording and surveillance unit.
