Leaderware has released an updated version of the Axis-911 emergency control room operator simulation package. Used for the training of emergency centre personnel, it gives a realistic computer-based experience in which critical emergency handling skills can be tested and developed.
Axis-911 simulates a range of incoming telephone, radio, and text inputs that operators can experience in the control room. Operators need to use the same critical skills such as listening, memorising information, data capture, remaining calm, and maintaining voice control that they would in real situations. Because it is a safe training simulation environment, it allows people to go through the actual experience and develop the confidence and skills to handle more demanding situations.
Provision is made for looking up information while handling calls, dispatch, classifying incident conditions, and handling a range of types of callers and incident handling requirements.
“With 2010 coming up,” says Dr Craig Donald, “this kind of simulation package should be essential to any operation which will be dealing with potential emergency or disaster situations. It will give confidence and credibility to both centre management and operators that their personnel will be able to handle crisis situations.”
