Responding to the rising demand for quality skills training and empowerment in the face of serious technical and engineering skills shortages, GE Security in South Africa has launched its new offices and training centre.
Located in Longmeadow Business Park, GE Security has put its money where its mouth is and committed funds to the establishment of its first certified training centre in Africa. The new centre will act as a training hub for distributors, integrators and end-users from South as well as sub-Saharan Africa.
“The new training centre is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and staffed by qualified trainers, making it a premier security training facility on the continent,” says regional business leader for GE Security, Carlo Klopper. “GE Security’s commitment to South Africa and Africa as a whole is demonstrated by our investment in the centre and we expect it to make substantial inroads into the technical skills shortage in the African security market.”
The facility will provide the security industry with theoretical and practical training on the basics of security (fire, CCTV, access control etc), product and soft skills. It will go further and include enterprise development on its curriculum, which will include engineering systems and best practice training and education for the market. Other businesses within the GE Enterprise Solutions, such as GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms will also have access to the facility.
Bart Otten, president of GE Security, Europe, Middle East and Africa, and Thami Mbele, national executive for GE in South Africa, were present at the grand opening.
