Johannesburg-based Sensor Technologies has extended its 'international company' label with the award of the fire protection contract for the COSAC project in Zambia.
The contract awarded by Anglo Vaal as part of its $100m via Kvaerner Metals, worth R800 000 in August 2000, is well on the way towards completion.
The contract comprises of self-standing fire detection systems in 11 substations communicating to a central control room via the site PLC system. Five of the substations will be fitted with CO2 gas flooding systems as the protection agent.
Mechanical installation of high-pressure water deluge systems on the sacrificial conveyor belt, fire pump house, diesel generators and main I/C transformer are included.
Supply and installation of 12 hydrants and 96 fire extinguishers makes up the balance of the contract.
