Megapixel camera offers the resolution of multiple cameras in one.
South African wireless Internet service provider, iBurst, opened its doors in 2005 and currently offers internet connectivity to over 60 000 subscribers.
Like many companies in South Africa, iBurst saw the value in implementing a surveillance system for security. The company holds valuable stock such as modems, antennae and routers, and also required a solution that efficiently covered its open plan offices. The challenge faced by the security system integrators was that too many traditional analogue surveillance cameras would be required in order to effectively monitor the large open plan office space.
Axis Communications partner, Camsecure, designed a network camera system using megapixel cameras. This allowed for the installation of fewer cameras to cover the same area at a reduced cost. According to Francois Malan, technical director of Camsecure, the only solution for this installation was network megapixel camera technology. This installation is the first in South Africa to utilise the Axis 207 Megapixel camera.
The Axis network camera installation designed by Camsecure has ensured that all essential areas have been sufficiently monitored by network cameras. Not only has the camera surveillance system assisted in securing the building, but the functionality of the Milestone monitoring software has allowed iBurst facilities and logistics manager, Daryl Bernstein, to use the cameras as a management tool.
“I can monitor the entire building from my desk,” says Bernstein. “The system has saved me time and I can now access live images of the entire floor area anywhere and anytime from my laptop.”
Monitoring delivery
Since the installation, there have been no recorded incidents in areas where the cameras have been installed.
The cameras situated at the receiving bay have been most useful, as iBurst is now able to view every delivery of merchandise to the building. There has been a noted decrease in shrinkages of stock since the installation.
Axis megapixel network cameras offer the same resolution and scope of image as a multicamera solution, resulting in a significant reduction in cost as well as installation time. The system allows for unlimited expansion and the technology can be integrated into other systems such as access control and fire alarms.
The power of megapixel technology has significantly changed the way in which surveillance installations can be implemented. “No analogue camera can compete with the resolution of network megapixel surveillance cameras, this is truly a revolution in the surveillance industry,” says Malan.
As iBurst expands, additional cameras will be installed to monitor new office space, parking bays and communal areas.
The installation of the Axis megapixel surveillance camera solution has benefited iBurst in terms of reducing its total cost of ownership. The cameras have easily integrated into the existing network infrastructure and also allow for easy expansion path for further cameras on the system.
