ADT Security recently moved into new premises featuring a state-of-the-art, technologically advanced and ergonomically designed control room. The new building is responsible for all incoming calls or signals sent to the company and facilitates the co-ordination of any emergency or technical response.
A team consisting of IT, technical, closed circuit television (CCTV) and access control specialists has worked tirelessly over the past 12 months to fit the building with the best technology available, ensuring that ADT has a sustainable infrastructure moving forward. The control room features three specialised high-security sections which house the entire infrastructure: the main central processing centre, the main signals centre and the main telephony centre. The building has also been equipped with numerous computer, voice and power cables, all interconnected via fibre-optic cables and high bandwidth network devices, plus additional routing paths for failed links.
In addition, to ensure a good working environment for staff, ADT consulted with ergonomic and design specialists. “Because we operate in such a demanding industry, it was important for us to couple our high-tech solutions with a softer touch, providing a pleasant and improved environment for staff,” says Danna Strydom, ADT managing director.
The control room features large windows tinted with ultraviolet protection, providing ample natural light to complement the internal lighting system. The layout of workstations has also been carefully planned, with increased work space and individual stations.
With the main central processing centre, main signals centre and the main telephony centre being housed in separate sections, the control room is now much cooler and has improved ventilation.
